How Weird Are You?

You Are 50% Weird

Normal enough to know that you're weird...
But too damn weird to do anything about it!

Mexican Riviera Adventure

Well, the adventure is over. I have returned and am still a little boat-lagged (the world still feels like it's tilting left and right). Cindie and I found a few nice little treasures while we were there, which we are going to try and get appraised soon. If they are what we think they are, we will have a few nice investment rocks. If they turn out to be crap, we bought them at stores that are "guaranteed" by Carnival, so we can at least get our money back on them. Also, customs let us through without even really paying attention, so that was nice.

We made stops in Puerto Vallarta, Mazatlan, and Cabo San Lucas.
In PV, we went into the jungle and did a zip-line adventure thing, which was a blast. We did not see much of the city, unfortunately, so I cannot testify as to how nice it was.
In Mazatlan, we took a taxi to the "gringo-zone", as I call it, and spent some time shopping and avoiding wackos trying to sell us crap on the beach. We did buy a few things there though.
In Cabo, we went snorkeling. Unfortunately, the water was only 65 degrees, so it was a little uncomfortable. It was still nice though, and we had a little time to hang out in the gringo-zone back at the port before we had to get on the ship again.
Just from our short excursions through each city, we counted 4 Subways in PV, 4 McDonalds in Mazatlan, and Cabo had a pretty large assortment of American restaurants and fast food places around the port.

The ship itself was pretty swanky, even if the staterooms were pretty tiny. Free food is nice, and we took advantage of it. Almost everything we had there was excellent, except (oddly enough) the lobster. The buffets were also pretty nice, but the dining room experience was well worth the trip. Also, the staff was from all over the world and everyone was insanely nice (I'm assuming from drug use). I wanted to sneak onto deck 4 where they all live and apparently have a staff lounge/pool/spa/etc to see how much they complain about the fat stupid Americans that probably make some of them rich in their own countries when they return after their contract is completed. From what I learned from talking to some of them, many contracts range from 5 months to a year.

If I have time this coming weekend, I will post pictures. We have a DVD coming from the zip-line thing which I will rip apart for some still frames and short videos to post as well.

I guess that's about it. I need to get to work now, as I see from my email that some people forgot that I was on vacation.

Which programming language?

Next time I'll take the "how freakin bored are you?" quiz.

You are COBOL. You are very business-oriented. You make conversations longer than they should be, and people easily grow bored by you.

Which Sci-fi Writer Are You?

Hmm, who knew?

I am:

Hal Clement (Harry C. Stubbs)

A quiet and underrated master of "hard science" fiction who, among other things, foresaw integrated circuits back in the 1940s.

Silly quiz

I normally hate those stupid little quizzes you see littering all of the "social" networking sites like (sit on) MySpace, but this one sounded slightly interesting so I decided to try it.

My results:

Your Linguistic Profile:

70% General American English
15% Yankee
5% Dixie
5% Upper Midwestern
0% Midwestern
What Kind of American English Do You Speak?

Of course, they've completely left out "hillbilly", "hip-hop", and "1337"...and I won't even bother mentioning some of the other asinine languages that pass for English these days, many of which are perpetrated by the commercial industry by continuing to place the letters K, Z, and X in various places in words just so they can try and trademark/copyright said idiotic word. One thing I found disappointing about the quiz, in relation to one of the aforementioned English "types", there was no question: Have you ever used the term "You sure got a pretty mouth" without it being a movie reference?

FYI: In some of the earliest versions of Red Hat Linux, you could choose "Red Neck" as your installation language.
